The Fire of Pentecost---The Holy Spirit
Lifts Us with God's Power for Love and Service
Pentecost brings our renewed openness to the power of the Holy Spirit to fill us with God's love and power. Through the Holy Spirit, we keep our eyes on Jesus and are guided to serve Christ as God would have us. The Spirit cuts through our foolish distinctions and biases to open us up to one another-- to love those we have thought unlovable; to embrace those who are different, to experience God's love move through us to others for God's glory.
May 24th is Pentecost in 2015. It is also the anniversary of John Wesley's own powerful experience of the Holy Spirit in 1739. Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism, went on to share the Gospel with the poor, the imprisoned, the oppressed, the orphaned and neglected, and to oppose slavery and human cruelty of all kinds. We seek that same Spirit and call to serve today!

Are you looking for an authentic community where lives are transformed?
---Where the community brings transformation to others?
First Methodist is a community that looks after its families and friends, seeking to help one another grow in spiritual life and in meeting the challenges that life brings. We enjoy living in God’s Kingdom here and now, and welcome others to this life. As we live in the Kingdom, God brings transformation in us and through us those we reach out to love as Christ with us.
Are you hoping for a deeper purpose in life, or feeling like you have no center?
First Methodist offers a way to live differently, centered in Christ, so that our priorities change from slavery to the demands of the world to joyful service to the God who loves us more than we can imagine. This allows us to live in the world as effective citizens and workers, but to be grounded in Christ so that we find purpose in even the little things that we do.
Are you tired of serving the demands of our culture, and being used up by your work?
First Methodist is a place to experience the power of the Holy Spirit working within us, so that we no longer feel consumed by our jobs and commitments. Instead, we experience the power and freedom that God provides to those who pay attention. This power and freedom leads to greater love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We get to see God’s hand at work in our lives.
