New Sermon series: "Living with God"

God is with us and we can live like God is with us for an amazing time ahead. It will take some changes in the way we think, feel, and act. If we want to live together in relationship with God, then we are invited to put on the mind of Christ, to see with divine eyes, hear with holy ears, and act with loving hands. This transformation is possible because God desires to work for us, with us and through us. Shall we meet God in this great work?

Living by the Spirit

Sunday, June 30, 2019

Our denomination tells us that our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  True as that is, does this really express our identity?  Are we a disciple-making machine?

Tested by the Spirit

Sunday, July 7, 2019

Many Christians are happy to tell others what to do and not to do; they are almost gleeful in announcing the sins of others and smugly proclaiming their holiness.  This often begins with how we choose what we regard as good and bad; acceptable and unacceptable.

Empowered by the Spirit

Sunday, July 14, 2019

In the opening prayer of the letter to the Colossians, St Paul prays that the people will continue to bear fruit of the Spirit by obtaining two things:  1. That they may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will and with all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 2. That they may be made strong with all the strength that comes from God’s glorious power.

Indwelt by the Spirit

Sunday, July 21, 2019

The core value of our church is love—love of God and all people and creation without exception.  This is what Jesus called the Great commandment.  On it all our common and individual life hinges.  We have been exploring how this works to build up the church and its members with the fruit of the Spirit, knowledge, wisdom and strength.

Newness in the Spirit

Sunday, August 4, 2019

What did St Paul mean by clothing ourselves in the new self, renewed in knowledge according to the image of God?  Could it be that God has really offered us hope that we can live in new ways; that we can find renewal after countless defeats and hopelessness?

Dressed for Action

Sunday, August 11, 2019

How we dress has become a big industry--- billions of dollars are spent on it in the Northern Hemisphere, while billions of people starve to death and live in the squalor created by war and greed.  The situation 2000 years ago was the same, although the scope of it was smaller.  Nevertheless, Jesus used clothing as a means to get at something far deeper and more important about the way we are to live in faith.

Attentive to the Cloud of Witnesses

Sunday, August 18, 2019

Today we celebrate the baptism of a beautiful child and we take in new members, we are taking part in an ancient ritual ordained by Christ and practiced from the earliest days of the church.  This ritual is the only way to fully enter into the life of the church.  It connects the child with all the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us in the life of the church and the Jewish people.
