Entering The Trinity

May 27, 2018

The story of Nicodemus has become an evangelical story that has lost meaning to a lot of people—all summed up as the injunction to believe in Christ so that you may have eternal life. True as that is, it has lost a lot in translation and repetition. Saying the sinners prayer or making a verbal statement that you believe in Jesus may be a ticket to heaven after you die, but it misses most of the blessing that Jesus intends for us here and now.

Filled and United by the Spirit

May 20, 2018

Birthing is an amazing event. The mother experiences great pain and relief, which is usually followed by overwhelming love and exhaustion.  But what is this like for the child?  Mercifully, we do not remember the event, which is why, perhaps, it is difficult for us to apprehend the power and amazing love of Pentecost, the birth of the church.  But we are able, sometimes, to remember our own spiritual birthing, and the powerful love of the Holy Spirit in our own lives awakening us to new life.

Rising in Service to God

May 13, 2018

Many Christians are mesmerized by staring into heaven. Reading the Bible about the wonders of our God in eternal beauty is something to help us truly rejoice. But is this all God wants for us? Please listen to the texts describing the ascension of Christ into heaven after his post resurrection appearances to the disciples.

Following the Hope

April 22, 2018

What or whom do you follow?  What or whom sets the goal for your life; the basis for your decisions and actions?  While we like to think that we are spontaneous or totally rational, we actually are more than likely responding to a pattern of expectations or the call of a leader in whom we have placed trust.  Listen today as Jesus gives us the offer of his shepherding leadership in our lives.

Following Aha Moments

April 15, 2018

Today we hear about another situation in which the Risen Jesus appears to disciples, who are shocked and confused.  Jesus allays their fears and then after explaining why he is risen, he charges them –and us—with carrying the message of Easter to the world.

Following the Signs

April 8, 2018

There are familiar signs that indicate that a traveler has entered a new town or city.  The shape, color and format are uniform and distinctive.  They can be very clear and yet at other times, they can confuse us. Sometimes we trust ambiguous signs and get what we hoped, other times, not so much.  Let us listen to the story of some of Jesus’ post resurrection signs to see how they touch us.

Following Yearning Love to God

Sunday, April 1, 2018

Have you ever so loved someone that you can barely keep from thinking about them every minute you are awake?  Have you ever so loved someone that when they grow sick, leave, or die the yearning of your heart is almost over-whelming, and all consuming that you can think or feel nothing else?   Listen to the experience of one of Jesus’ disciples when she approached his tomb on the third day and pay attention to her heart and God’s response.
