New Sermon series: "Renewed by Joy"

Easter Season is an opportunity to really connect with the joy of life in Christ.  Allowing ourselves to experience God's love is key to finding inner peace, joy, and deeper love.  Let's use this season for the glory of God and our transformation.

Terror and Amazement

Sunday, April 21, 2019

The Gospel of Luke records the discovery of the resurrection in vivid emotional terms. The women who went to perform burial customs in preparation of Jesus’ body were “terrified” by angels and the empty tomb. They went and told the doubting men, who were in hiding. Of these, only two ran to the tomb and returned home “amazed.” Could we have such a powerful emotional responses to the resurrection today?

Signs of Peace

Sunday, April 28, 2019

After the terror and amazement of Easter morning, the disciples once again were hiding from the authorities—still on edge, afraid of their own deaths, confused about what had happened, feeling lost---at dis-ease.  Into this setting came Jesus offering words and signs of peace. He repeated this a week later.

Reconciling Love

Sunday, May 5, 2019

Have you ever felt ashamed, guilty, unforgivable—just so embarrassed by yourself that you wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear?  Most of us have experienced this sort of shame and guilt at one time or another.  Today, we have heard about one mightily ashamed man, Simon Peter and how Jesus loved him—and by extension loves us.

The Faithful Raised

Sunday, May 12, 2019

There are few people in the Old Testament who were raised from the dead, but Jesus was known to raise several and his disciples likewise.  These events challenge our scientific minds with miracles that go beyond our understanding of the ways things work.

Breaking Barriers in Love

Sunday, May 19, 2019

Who is in and who is out:  From elementary school to the present day, we are confronted by various processes that want to draw the line, separate the insider from those on the outside.  The problem goes back to the earliest people, I suppose.

Homing God

Sunday, May 26, 2019

We tend to view God like this—a not so benevolent bureaucrat, cop or judge.  Who wants to encounter such a God?!  We don’t need a god to tell us that we are less than perfect in how we muddle through life.  We already know that much! But this is not the God of whom Jesus tells us; it is not the God that Jesus portrays with his life; it is not the God that generations of joyful saints have known either.
